(a) A section through the liver mass, highlighting the blood supply within the
organ. Blood enters via the hepatic artery or portal vein, and percolates through
the narrow sinusoidal channels before exiting through the central veins. (b)
A sinusoid, showing how blood passes over its endothelial lining. Kupffer cells
sit on top of the sinusoidal endothelium and penetrate into the lumen of the
sinusoid (fig001dab).
