Neurons were stained with tetramethylrhodamine, ethyl ester, perchlorate (TMRE). TMRE accumulates in mitochondria and emits high fluorescence. The cell images were recorded with a digital camera and processed to generate high-resolution images. The image is courtesy of Dr Gary E.
