The domain architecture of polycystin-1 and -2
Bradley K. Yoder, Sharon Mulroy, Hannah Eustace, Catherine Boucher and Richard Sandford

Figure 3. The domain architecture of polycystin-1 and -2. Polycystin-1 comprises multiple extra- and intracellular protein domains that suggest many different protein ligands and hence many different cellular functions. The commonest domain is the PKD domain. A single PKD domain is present at the N-terminus of the protein and 15 are in tandem array between the LDL-A domain and the REJ domain. Both polycystin-1 and polycystin-2 are shown as multimembrane-spanning proteins. Interaction between the two proteins is mediated through potential C-terminal intracellular coiled-coil domains. Abbreviations: EF hand, a common calcium-binding domain; GPS, G-protein-coupled receptor proteolytic site; LDL-A, low-density lipoprotein receptor class A domain; LRR, leucine-rich repeat; PKD, polycystic kidney disease; PLAT, polycystinlipoxygenasealphatoxin; REJ, receptor for egg-jelly; WSC, cell wall integrity and stress response component.
